About Me
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”
-Isaiah 5:20
To start, I consider myself a social person. Although I sometimes cherish the idea of retreating to my room and relaxing in solitude (when my “loving” little sister isn’t bothering me). Since I first set foot on the ground in 2007, I have enjoyed playing with kids of all ages. My parents will tell you I was “full of energy” in my early school years. They swear I was a handful, but I don’t remember it like that. I do, however, remember those fun times I had visiting family and friends as we did things like going to the park, to sporting events, and on vacations.
As I aged into middle and high school, I began participating in activities around my school, local community center, and church. My parents pushed and supported me as I took on all types of opportunities and endeavors. I have been enrolled in various character-building clubs such as the Student Council, Chess Club, sports teams, the Black Student Union, orator clubs, the National Honor Society, and kids church (as a teacher/volunteer). I have given speeches and performed musical pieces during special events in front of the main congregation for the church. I don’t think I’ve ever been shy speaking in front of people, and my youth pastors ensure that.
My mom works in the medical field, and my love for anatomy and interest in medicine stemmed from her. She often shares stories about cases she would handle at work, and I ask her how these cases turned out. It was a sort of realistic storytelling that never ceased to fascinate me. Since grade school, my mom’s stories and curiosity enabled me to take a deep interest in math and science, which stays with me today.
My parents are college graduates and instilled in me the importance of academics and seeking knowledge in general. My parents, along with the dedicated teachers at Hanover Elementary School and Lehigh Valley Academy, did more than teach me math and science; they opened my eyes to the world of opportunities waiting for me in the medical field.
Although math and science are my favorite subjects in school, they aren’t the only subjects I enjoy.
World History and Civics have become fields that I find myself getting lost in from time to time. I’m neither a historian nor an attorney, but the knowledge about these topics always seems to capture me. Many of the military conflicts that occurred in the 20th and 21st centuries pique my attention. What’s more, the relationship between citizens and their government today and how it has progressed over the years is so intriguing. It’s fascinating how humanity struggles to live peacefully, whether between country and country or citizen and government, with the rise of technology, medicine, and business.
Here is a fun fact about me: I used to loathe writing from grade school until the start of high school. I really, really, REALLY hated writing! Writing assignments were so abstract and subjective to me that I didn’t understand why they were in the school’s curriculum. However, somewhere in junior high, I started to have a deeper appreciation for storytelling and meaning in literature. Until then, the structure, the laws, and the facts that math and science contained were very familiar to me. Mostly, they did not challenge me as much as character development, allegories, motifs, and allusions in writing did.
Once I started to understand writing more, I really understood the “softer” part of life. I understood different perspectives better. I started to grasp people’s decisions in literature, in reality, on TV shows, and in movies (I had no interest in dramas otherwise).
What are some of my hobbies? Well, I’m not too different from many other American teens.
For starters, I love to play sports — mainly basketball, soccer, and tennis (my mom detests the thought of me playing full-contact football, so I occasionally throw the football around with my friends). Since I play sports, I appreciate the grind, the sacrifice, and the emotions athletes at all levels go through to compete to win games and accomplish goals during a season. As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I deeply respect players like Jalen Hulu Has Live Sports (you have to say the whole thing) in how they’re working and climbing that mountain that is the NFL season to get back to the Super Bowl.
Basketball is my favorite sport because I can play it and watch it (pro, semi-pro, NCAA, and grade school levels) at any time. My father is a fan of the sport, and he passed that love down to me. My favorite NBA team is pretty much whatever team LeBron James plays on, and I won’t apologize for it. He has so many haters, and I feel like these people are really misguided — especially those Jordan fans — but I have an even deeper reverence for players like him because he impacts those around him on and off the court.
I also like to “relax” by playing video games. Weirdly enough, I don’t play too many sports games unless my cousins visit or I visit them.
Normally, I only play games for about an hour a day during the week and a few hours a day during the weekend. Since I don’t play video games that much, I only play certain games I like. These include Call of Duty, Rocket League, Rainbow Six: Siege, and (don’t judge) the old ModRacers on PS3.
Well, I just wanted to “briefly” share some things about me, but I think I’ve gone past brief. If you want to reach out to me, check out the contact page on this site and give me a shout! Again, I thank you for visiting my site and I hope that you get a chance to check out some of my blog posts and leave me some (constructive) feedback!
